My Experience Filming Be Your Own Boss with Holly Tucker on ITV

This Sunday, our little independent business will be featured on ITV’s brand-new show Be Your Own Boss with the amazing Holly Tucker -  and I honestly still can’t believe it! We’re episode two (but don’t panic, all episodes are available to stream on ITVx from Sunday!), and it’s such a pinch-me moment to see Kind Petals (formerly Bud Hut) on national TV.

It all started back in June when an email dropped into my inbox from a True North representative. They said my social media had caught their attention and that they were in the early (and very fast-paced!) stages of planning and filming a new TV show “for one of the top four UK channels, with a well-known small business host.”

To say I thought it was a joke would be an understatement. I actually rang them and then did a mild bit of detective work (read: stalked their website and socials) just to make sure it wasn’t a scam! I couldn’t quite believe that something like this could happen to little old me and my small business, the one I started in my garage just three years ago.

Fast forward a few weeks, and there I was, standing in front of cameras and meeting Holly Tucker, the incredible entrepreneur and champion of independent businesses, about to film for Be Your Own Boss.

The show has been described as “a Sort Your Life Out for small businesses” and that couldn’t be more accurate. It’s positive, encouraging, warm, witty, and full of real-world business advice from Holly Tucker herself.

The Filming Experience

The Be Your Own Boss film crew visited me both at my home and at my flower studio, and wow, what an experience that was! Let me tell you, nothing makes you clean your home like Holly Tucker popping in for a cuppa and slice of cake!

Imagine trying to “act natural” while three huge cameras are pointing at you, a sound mic is hovering over your head, and someone keeps telling you, “Just forget we’re even here.” Sure thing! Totally normal day at the office, right?

Then there was the moment the small business guru herself, Holly Tucker, appeared beside me - calm, radiant, full of wisdom - while I’m there thinking, “Really? This was not on my 2025 bingo card!”

But honestly, the crew were absolute gems. Everyone made me feel so comfortable (after the first few slightly awkward takes!), and the whole day was filled with laughter, coffee breaks, and moments I’ll never forget. Holly was everything I hoped she’d be, encouraging, kind, and genuinely passionate about helping small businesses and independent founders like me find our confidence again.

The Big Rebrand (Well… Kind Of!)

Without giving too much away before Be Your Own Boss airs, I can say that my time with Holly Tucker was absolutely transformative. After spending some time with me and my family, receiving our product, and really getting to know my independent business inside out, Holly shared her top three tips for how she felt I could improve my brand.

Now… those who know me well won’t be shocked to hear that I went a little rogue. Holly’s advice was brilliant - but instead of making a few small tweaks, I decided to take things a whole lot further! Her initial suggestion included the idea of a possible name change, and, well, you can probably guess where that led. Go big or go home, right?

I spent the summer working through Holly’s action plan, implementing changes, improvements, and recording every part of the journey along the way. There were check-ins with Holly, long nights, and a few moments of chaos (okay, lots of moments of chaos), but somehow, we pulled it all together.

After a few short, crazy, busy, and very stressful weeks, I was finally ready to send the revised product back. The Be Your Own Boss team captured the whole journey; The behind-the-scenes hustle, Holly’s reaction to our new direction, and the real highs and lows of small business ownership.

I can’t wait for everyone to see it all unfold on Be Your Own Boss this Sunday on ITV and ITVX - it’s a celebration of creativity, courage, and what it really means to run a small, independent business.
